FoodChoice: A Nutritional Label Scanner App
FoodChoice is an Android application that serves as a nutritional knowledge tool. By scanning barcodes from food products, users can easily understand the nutritional information displayed on the labels. This helps them make informed decisions and choose products that are suitable for their health quickly. If no information is found, users can share product images to contribute to the app's up-to-date and comprehensive database.
The basic nutritional label information displayed in FoodChoice is sourced from the Food Label Survey Database and nutritional information of packaged food and beverages in sealed containers. This database is compiled by the Food and Drug Administration's Office of Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health in 2015.
The development of FoodChoice involves researchers and experts from various organizations, including the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Health, Mahidol University's Institute of Nutrition, the Foundation for the Promotion of Nutrition under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Nutrition Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Songkhla Nakharin University, the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, the Consumer Foundation, the Thai Children Don't Drink Sugar Project, the Office of Health Promotion Fund, and the International Health Policy Development Office under the Ministry of Public Health.
